About
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved writing. Stories at Primary School, essays for History and English exams, letters to pen pals (yes, I’m from the pre-digital generation), articles for school and staff magazines, and now it’s copy of all descriptions, blogs and social media posts. I’m still hell-bent on writing a book one day too!
As a teenager, my burning desire – other than the pretty boy New Romantic pop stars of the day – was to be a music journalist. Every spare penny of my pocket money, after hairspray and extra strong styling gel, went on the likes of the NME, Melody Maker and Smash Hits. My personal style was a mish-mash of Goth fashion and the sounds of the Top 40 – I truly believe I was the only Goth in Essex who listened to Wham! and sported a Choose Life t-shirt!
Unfortunately, I never got to interview Duran Duran in the back of a transit van (although I did meet Nick Haywood in a nightclub once, but that’s another story). My grand entrance into the big wide world of work was as an Office Junior at the age of 18, having had to tone down the Goth child persona as nobody would employ me! Over the next 24 years I flitted my way through a veritable Smorgasbord of industries, gradually working up the ranks, from Office Junior to PA/Office Manager.
Starting a business at the age of 42 was absolutely terrifying and exhilarating all at the same time. Learning how to market myself, hold my own in networking meetings and keep on top of the delights of invoicing clients was the steepest of learning curves – and that was without the actual day to day stuff of looking after my clients.
Would I change anything? Hell no!
Have the goalposts shifted since I started in 2012? You bet your life they have!
When I’m not being a Wordy Bird copywriter, you’ll find me enjoying the delights of MotoGP, F1 and cricket. I love a good book, and I have an ever-growing gin collection. I’m also a keen cook – utterly addicted to any foodie show on the TV – and every so often, I’ll indulge in my passion for baking. In 2021 I adopted a 10 year old feline, taking a step closer on the path to Crazy Cat Lady!

I still love music and going to gigs, although these days it’s the seated areas rather than standing room only.
